Diving into a Unique Steam Demo: Playing as a Turdy Character on a Quest to Find the Toilet
Steam Next Fest is in full swing, and enthusiasts have discovered numerous engaging indie games. But, one catches the eye for its quirky concept. Titled Unko Technica, this retro-inspired side-scrolling game features a character that is actually a dung trying to navigate to a toilet. For those curious, "Unko" means "poop."
Player controls is simple: press a jump control. Throughout numerous challenges, you'll face tough enemies and access a market to purchase skins for your dung hero.
Execute your movements carefully, as a wrong move forces restarting the level. Bounce on bubbles to launch your character to new heights, traverse fragile ledges, and activate switches to reveal new areas. Earn UN-KOINS and use them on more difficult levels where the action intensifies.
Visually, the experience features vibrant level designs and an amazing music score. Its minimalist visual style featuring shifting basic polygons could recall players of beloved games like Earthbound.
Even though difficult to recall other games where you control a coiled turd, interactive entertainment often featured fecal matter. For example, in Death Stranding, players create throwables from protagonist droppings. Examples include Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved employ feces as fertilizer. Naturally, this theme shows up heavily in Obsidian's role-playing game The Stick of Truth.
Putting aside its goofy idea, Unko Technica has already garnered impressive accolades, including taking top honors at Bandai Namco's indie contest in 2023. A playable preview is accessible currently on Steam, with the complete version scheduled to debut on computers in the fall.
